Then and Now… January 28, 2009

Gavin turned 18 months old this past Friday!  Watching him these days is so entertaining.  He is so busy all of the time and doing so much.  It is amazing how much he has changed in the past year.  Last year this time he was just starting to scoot along and still had a gummy smile!!!  In thinking about all he does now, it made me want to do a then and now post like I have seen some other people do before.  So here goes…

At 6 months, our little baby boy was just starting to scoot and he had no teeth.  He had only been sitting up for a few weeks, and he just had a few babbles to share with us.  He was getting used to baby food, and trying out a little juice.  We got him a sippy cup at 6 months to try out a little too.  He loved to cuddle and would just lay with you and snuggle all the time.  Back then, he weighed in at 16 lbs. 4.5 oz. and he was 27 inches tall.

Now, at 18 months, he has changed so much.  He is becoming so independent, and while you love to see them grow, I still sometimes miss those days when he would sit with us for long periods of time just to snuggle.  While he is still very loving and loves to give hugs and kisses, they are much shorter periods of time!  That scoot has turned into a full out run, and he now has 10 teeth, and a couple more trying to make there way in!!!  And along with those teeth, come a pretty big vocabulary.  This part has taken me a few days to observe and take notes.  These are all of the words that I can think of that Gavin knows and uses pretty often: mama, daddy, ball, bubbles, dog, milk, duck, woof-woof, quack-quack, snack, shoe, sock, nose, eyes, mouth, oh toodles! (from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), book, apple, bye-bye, up, jello, stop, light, block, all gone, thank you, cheese, please, no, hot, elmo, one, two, boo boo, hey dada, nasty (when we clean his nose), spoon, juice, fish, drink, eat-eat and a host of other words that he tries to repeat us saying!  He loves to blow kisses and always does so when telling someone bye-bye!  He loves to eat and can feed himself with a spoon.  They sent his sippy cup home from daycare a couple of weeks ago.  He only uses open cups there!!!  We are not brave enough yet to do that all the time at home.  It can get a little messy!  At his check up last Friday, he weighed in at 25 lbs. 9 oz. and was 32 1/2 inches tall!  He is a big helper and loves to help clean up and put things away.  He is become quite opinionated these days too.  He lets you know what he wants!  He does still usually say thank you when he gets what it is he wanted.  I think that is all I can think of to share right now.  Here are a couple of then and now pictures.  Thanks for reading!!!

We went to the Wonder Place yesterday morning and met up with Melissa and Jackson; Denise and Emerson; Emily, Jeff, and Ethan; and Allison and Eli.  It was great to see everyone and the kids had a great time playing!!! Gavin especially enjoyed the water table again.  I did plan ahead and bring an extra shirt for him this time.  He found some new things to play with as well.  I took so many pictures that I just decided to make a slideshow.  And, I just love this new slideshow site that I found.  Check out smilebox.com to make your slideshows.  They have other things you can make there too.  Somehow, we did not get any pictures with Emerson.  Hopefully, her mommy got some.  Enjoy the show!

Our Christmas this year was wonderful!!!  We went to Alabama and spent Christmas with my family there.  Gavin had so much fun chasing after his cousins, opening gifts and staying up late!!!!  One night he stayed up until 1 AM!!!!  He just would not give in.  I have never seen anyone fight sleep the way he did that night.  He also had tons of fun playing Rock Band on the Wii with his cousins!!!  We got some pictures of him on the drums this time!  Gavin got lots of fun toys for Christmas!!!  He has been busy playing with them all since we got back home.  He loves his Elmo Live from MaMa and PaPa, and he likes playing his guitar that Tee Vicki and family got for him.  He also loves his monster truck that his Granny got for him!!!  He has been enjoying his new books as well.  The boy loves to read!  I hope the he still loves it when he has to do it!  Thanks from Gavin for all of the gifts that he received this year!  Cory and I enjoyed getting to see everyone as well.  We enjoyed beating up on my sisters and their husbands in Spades!!!  We will be ready to play again next time we see you guys!!!  Watch the slide show below to see for yourself how much fun we all had!
